Carnival / Antroxu!!

This is for my english friends, regarding our carnival (call Antroxu in my hometown). We’re now, in Spain, celebrating it (well, my friends are)…

Carnival occurs immediately before Lent. It’s typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, mask and public street party (that’s the most important part, party on the streets ^_^)

For a good carnival you need some basics things:

1.- Dress up! The costumes worn are often related to recent news (The feeling of this carnival is the sharp criticism, the funny play on words and the imagination in the costumes, more than the glamorous dressings. It is traditional to p

aint the face with lipstick as a humble substitute of a mask.) (The best dresses: Canary Island)

2.- The “Pasacalles”, the word comes from pasa (walk) and calles (streets) people play instruments, sing and dance while they are walking around the city. They normally compose really funny and quite ironic songs about what it’s going on in the country. (of course everyone is dressed up) (the best festival in Cadiz; it’s called “chirigotas” )

3.- The food

“Frisuelos” it looks like a crepe but it’s thinner and better ;) Made from eggs, flour, milk, salt and sugar. (I already done some to eat at home ^_^)

It’s a pretty basic festival: dress up, met your friends, drink, eat, dance, sing and have fun! Enjoy the life is basic, mates ;)

See you xXx
